(c) An acknowledgement of receipt of the document described above must be signed
by all Tenants prior to the Tenants taking possession of the dwelling unit, and a
copy of the acknowledgement kept on file by the Landlord for at least six (6) years
and made available for inspection at the request of the City of South Portland.
(d) Landlord may obtain the signature of Tenant by electronic signature pursuant to
the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act if Landlord and Tenant have agreed to
conduct transactions by electronic means.

(e) A Landlord is prohibited from refusing to accept Cash or a check from a
financial institution located in the United States tendered as a form of payment,
whether such refusal is by the Landlord or any person authorized to accept payment
on behalf of the Landlord and whether such payment tendered is in full or only a
portion of the amount due Landlord. “Cash” means United States coins and currency as
set forth in 31 U.S.C. § 5103, as the same may be amended. “Cash” does not include
currency issued under the authority of any country other than the United States; or
any paper instrument (including, but not limited to, any check, bond, or promissory
note) or any coin that is not legal tender in the United States as provided in 31
U.S.C. § 5103, as the same may be mended. The following are excepted from these
provisions:
