The district court dismissed appellants’ 42 U.S.C. § 1983 claim for deprivation of property without due process on the ground that § 1983 provides a right of action only for a violation of those rights secured by the United States Constitution and not for a denial of state-created rights. The district court was apparently concerned because the property interest of which appellants claim to have been deprived was created by state law. However, that the source of a property interest is state law does not render the deprivation of the property without due process any less a basis for § 1983 liability.
