The Badami family filed this lawsuit on May 22, 1997, alleging that the defendants had discriminated against them based on familial status in violation of the Fair Housing Act. The Badamis sought compensatory and punitive damages, injunctive relief, and costs. Mrs. Philomena Badami pursued her family's cause pro se before the district court. The jury returned a verdict in favor of the Badamis and awarded $1100 in compensatory damages.
