691 charsWhat the record shows here is that the Hoffmans supplied them own equipment; made all the decisions with regard to the farming operations; performed unpaid maintenance not related to farming and on both tilled and unfilled land (including maintenance of fences on both tilled and unfilled land); made application for government programs and dealt directly with conservation agents (for example, in the fall of 2005, a conservation agent told Mr. Hoffman to plant twenty acres of wheat to remain in compliance with the subsidy program, which Mr. Hoffman did without consulting the land owner); and received profits from non-tilled land, especially land in the government crop subsidy program.
