510 chars—Respondent Western Land Office, Inc. (hereinafter the landlord) filed eight separate complaints for unlawful detainer against appellants (hereinafter the tenants) in the Municipal Court of Monterey County. In their answers the tenants alleged the affirmative defense of retaliatory eviction. (Civ. Code, § 1942.5.) The cases were consolidated for trial, and the trial was held before a jury. The jury returned a general verdict in favor of the landlord on all complaints, and judgment was entered accordingly.
