244.350. - Solid waste storage.
Every dwelling unit, rooming unit, and shared bath unit shall be provided with an
adequate number of containers to hold the solid waste accumulated by such units until
said solid waste is removed from the premises. These containers shall be made of metal
or approved plastic and be equipped with tight-fitting covers. Where city collection
is utilized, pursuant to section 225.600 of this Code, the director of public works shall determine the number of mobile refuse
containers (MRC) needed to hold the solid waste accumulated by such units until it
is collected for disposal. An owner, operator or agent utilizing private solid waste
collection shall provide both the required solid waste containers and the removal
service. Approved plastic solid waste containers shall meet the standards of the National
Sanitation Foundation Standard No. 21 (as revised 1975). A copy of the standard will
be on file at the Minneapolis Department of Health.
Unobstructed pedestrian walkways not less than thirty (30) inches in width shall be
maintained to the required solid waste containers. Such walkways shall lead from the
public way and shall also be accessible to and usable by the occupants of the dwelling
for which the containers are provided. Snow, whether natural, piled or accumulated,
to a depth greater than six (6) inches shall be deemed to constitute an obstruction
if not removed within a twelve-hour time period after snow has ceased to fall.
