444 charsA & F’s argument ignores the rationale underlying the decisions prohibiting affirmative defenses and counterclaims in unlawful detainer actions, that the sole issue in such actions is the right of possession. Lake in the Woods, 651 S.W.2d at 558; McNeill, 456 S.W.2d at 807. If affirmative defenses and counterclaims were allowed in-unlawful detainer actions, the effectiveness of the summary relief provided for by statute would be undermined.
