. Even the old common law courts responded with a different rule for a landlord-tenant relationship which did not conform to the model of the usual agrarian lease. Much more substantial obligations were placed upon the keepers of inns (the only multiple dwelling houses known to the common law). Their guests were interested solely in shelter and could not be expected to make their own repairs. \ “The modern apartment dweller more j closely resembles the guest in an inn than he resembles an agrarian tenant, but the; law has not generally recognized the similarity.” J.
