According to the Bricklers, they continued to live in the home because they could not afford to rent a second home. They reduced their use of the septic system by taking showers, doing the laundry, and washing dishes on a three-day rotation. They did not use the front yard, but they nonetheless suffered “from otherwise unexplained bouts of dysentery.”1 2
