Asbestos

In the case of the presence of asbestos, the landlord must hire a licensed asbestos removal company to remove, repair, or encapsulate the asbestos.

Lead paint

Lead paint In households with children under the age of six, the Health Division can conduct a lead paint test to determine the presence of lead. If there is lead present in a home with children under the age of six, the landlord will receive instructions to hire a licensed lead inspector and licensed contractor to remove or encapsulate the lead.

Mold

For visible mold, the Health Division can conduct an inspection. If visible mold is confirmed, the landlord must remove the mold. For mold and air quality inquiries, please contact a mold tech company for air quality testing.

Temperatures

The temperature requirements for heating are as follows: September 15 to May 31, the temperature should be at least 68F (20C) between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.; and at least 64F (17C) between 11:01 p.m. and 6:59 a.m. State Sanitary Code, Chapter II, CMR 105.410.180.
