What is an existing short-term rental (STR)?

It is a STR dwelling unit that is:
Neither owner nor tenant occupied
Established and continuously used as a STR prior to April 1, 2024

Are there any commonalities among the different types of rentals?

All units, short-term and long-term rentals, must be registered with and inspected by the City.

When did the rental registry rules come into effect?

The ordinance went into effect April 1, 2024.

Are there exemptions for registration and inspection?

There are exemptions for some uses, such as motels, hotels, inns, group homes, dormitories, nursing homes, emergency shelters, many shared living situations, and more.

How will the rental regulations be enforced?

Enforcement includes, but is not limited to, revocation of orders (if not registered or inspected), municipal tickets, and court actions to require cessation of the use.
Enforcement measures are contained in the Residential Registry Ordinance.

What are the fees for being in violation?

Up to $800 per day for each day a violation continues. Fines will always be a last resort to ensuring compliance.

What are the registration fees?

All registration fees are annual.
Existing STR - $1,500 Owner Occupied STR or Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) - $150
Long-term - $150
