The Town of Amherst Inspection Services Department has launched the Residential Rental Property Inspection Program. These Inspections are now required and a condition to maintaining a rental permit. We will contact property owners and persons-in-charge in to schedule inspections.
With over 5,000 units in Amherst, this program is expected to span several years. Up to 500 randomly selected units will be scheduled for inspection annually. Do not be concerned if you do not hear from us immediately. It may be years before you are selected for inspection, and no action is required until we contact you. You will receive an informational postcard notice in the mail when you have been selected and be contacted by phone or email for scheduling. Plenty of advanced notice will be provided.

Mandatory Recycling Plan: All rental permits must have a recycling plan. Use the Rental Resident Recycling Plan Form to assist in creating a plan. Also check out RecyclingWorks, a free assistance program available to help develop or improve a recycling plan.
