The housing authority of the city of New Haven is an independent public authority created pursuant to General Statutes § 8-40 to operate federally subsidized low income family housing projects. The housing authority receives money from the United States department of housing and urban development to subsidize the operation of the various housing units that it owns throughout the city, and is subject to both applicable state law and the provisions of the United States Housing Act of 1937, 42 U.S.C. § 1437 et seq., and its implementing regulations in title 24 of the Code of Federal Regulations.
